One man was killed and four others injured early Sunday when gunfire broke out between two groups at a large outdoor gathering in Danville, Virginia.
The shooting happened around 1:30 am on a private property near the intersection of Carver Drive and Cheyenne Drive, according to a statement from the Danville police department.
Investigators believe shots were exchanged between people inside a Chrysler sedan and others at the gathering.
Officers found 22-year-old Jay'Shaun Tiejae White of Hurt, Virginia, sitting alone in a Chrysler sedan in the middle of the roadway with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man, believed to have been driving the Chrysler, was found on a nearby street with a gunshot wound. He was taken to SOVAH Health hospital in Danville. His condition has not been released.
Three other victims, two adult men and a 19-year-old woman, arrived at the hospital in private vehicles and were treated for gunshot wounds .
As of Sunday afternoon, the three men remained hospitalized, police said. No arrests have been made.
The Danville police department is urging anyone with information to come forward and speak with detectives.
