Donald Trump termed the Russia-Ukraine war as former President Joe Biden's war and accused Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy of colluding with Biden in doing an "absolutely horrible job in allowing the travesty to begin". Trump's statement on his Truth Social came after Zelenskyy in an interview with CBS's 60 Minutes urged Trump to come and visit Ukraine before taking any kind of decision.
“Please, before any kind of decisions, any kind of forms of negotiations, come to see people, civilians, warriors, hospitals, churches, children destroyed or dead,” Zelenskyy said.
"The War between Russia and Ukraine is Biden’s war, not mine. I just got here, and for four years during my term, had no problem in preventing it from happening. President Putin, and everyone else, respected your President!" Trump posted.
"I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS WAR, BUT AM WORKING DILIGENTLY TO GET THE DEATH AND DESTRUCTION TO STOP. If the 2020 Presidential Election was not RIGGED, and it was, in so many ways, that horrible War would never have happened. President Zelenskyy and Crooked Joe Biden did an absolutely horrible job in allowing this travesty to begin. There were so many ways of preventing it from ever starting. But that is the past. Now we have to get it to STOP, AND FAST. SO SAD!"
Earlier, Trump played down Russia's fresh strike on the centre of the Ukrainian city of Sumy that killed 34 people, including two children, as he called it a "mistake". “I think it was terrible, and I was told they made a mistake, but I think it’s a horrible thing. I think the whole war is a horrible thing,” he said. Kremlin denied any role in the Sumy attack and said the Russian army only hits the military and military-related targets.
Russia's defence ministry put the blame on Ukraine. “The Kyiv regime continues to use the Ukrainian population as a human shield, placing military facilities and holding events with the participation of soldiers in the centre of a densely populated city,” the ministry said.
'It will not be a theatre'
Remembering how Vice President JD Vance who visited Ukraine accused Zelenskyy of conducting propaganda tours, Zelenskyy, in his interview, said if President Trump visits Ukraine, it will not be a propaganda tour. “We will not prepare anything. It will not be theatre. You can go exactly where you want, in any city which [has] been under attacks,” Zelenskyy said.
“I believe that Russian narratives prevail in the United States. It seems to me that the vice-president is justifying Putin’s actions. This is a change in reality. The Russians are the aggressors, and we are the victims,” Zelenskyy said.
