Guwahati: Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) has been accorded the status of a regional centre (RC) under the National Medical Commission for Medical Education Technology. This recognition follows an on-site inspection carried out by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) in Sept 2024. As a regional centre, GMCH will now conduct faculty development programmes for selected medical colleges in Assam, West Bengal, and Tripura.
"Under this, RC held its first Basic Course In Medical Education (BCME) from April 7 to 9. The participants were 30 in-house senior-most faculties as well as junior faculties from GMCH," stated an official release. The BCME concluded on Wednesday.
The inauguration of the regional centre took place on April 7 at the GMCH. The event was graced by principals of medical colleges from Assam and the northeast, medical education unit coordinators, faculty members, and students. Chief guests Dr Dhruba Jyoti Bora, vice-chancellor of SSUHS, and Siddharth Singh, commissioner and secretary of the state medical education and research department, inaugurated the centre.
