IPL 2025: After Four Consecutive Losses, SRH Coach Daniel Vettori Stands by Top-Order's Aggression, Admits Tactical Shortcomings

Send Push

Hyderabad, April 7 Following Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fourth consecutive loss in IPL 2025, head coach Daniel Vettori has defended the team’s aggressive top-order approach but acknowledged that adaptability to match conditions and smarter counter-tactics are essential for a turnaround.

SRH suffered a 7-wicket defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans on Sunday night at their home ground in Hyderabad. Their total of 152/8 was easily chased down by GT in just 16.4 overs, exposing issues in both batting resilience and bowling execution.

“We Know the Consequences of Four Straight Losses” Vettori

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Vettori remained composed yet candid. “We know our style of play will work, but we have to respect the conditions, and we’re not doing that well enough right now,” he said. He pointed out that opposing teams are planning more strategically against SRH’s top three, and Hyderabad’s batsmen have struggled to adjust accordingly.

“This wasn’t the typical Hyderabad wicket. It was challenging for batters, and we fell about 20 runs short of a defendable score,” Vettori added. He emphasized that they had aimed for 160-170, but SRH couldn’t capitalize during the key middle overs.

Declining Form Since Explosive Start

Sunrisers had kicked off their campaign with fireworks, posting a record 286 against Rajasthan Royals, but their form has plummeted since. “I don’t think Pat Cummins ever panics, and neither do I,” said Vettori, brushing off panic talk. “But yes, four losses make our season more difficult.”

Vettori highlighted that fielding has been a major concern for SRH this season. “We haven’t played our best cricket in any department whether batting, bowling, or fielding. We need a united effort going forward,” he said.

All Departments Need to Step Up Before Must-Win Clash

Vettori refrained from blaming the batting unit alone, noting, “Last year, we posted big scores but couldn’t defend them. This year, we aren’t getting those scores to begin with.”

With their next match against Punjab Kings on April 12, SRH is under pressure to correct course quickly. A cohesive performance across batting, bowling, and fielding is now crucial if they hope to revive their playoff hopes.
