Pahalgam, April 22, 2025 — In one of the deadliest terror attacks in recent years, at least 26 people have lost their lives in a brutal assault carried out by terrorists in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in South Kashmir. Among the deceased are tourists, local civilians, and two foreign nationals, including an Israeli citizen. Several others have been critically injured.
The attack, which took place on Tuesday evening, has sent shockwaves across the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the incident and assured the nation that those behind the “cowardly act” will not be spared. “Justice will be swift and uncompromising,” the Prime Minister said in a statement, confirming his conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and directing immediate action.
Amit Shah Arrives in Srinagar, Chairs High-Level Security ReviewHome Minister Amit Shah flew to Srinagar following the attack and is currently chairing an emergency high-level meeting with top officials from the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, Intelligence Bureau, and civil administration. The focus of the meeting is on immediate counter-terror operations, enhancing intelligence coordination, and reinforcing security measures, especially ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
Amit Shah emphasized zero tolerance for terrorism and directed security agencies to intensify the search and neutralization operations in and around Pahalgam. He also reviewed evacuation and medical arrangements for the injured.
Devendra Fadnavis Confirms Two Victims from MaharashtraMaharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep anguish and condemned the attack. “This is an attempt to derail Kashmir’s peace and development,” he said. Fadnavis also confirmed that two victims in the attack were residents of Maharashtra and stated that his government is in close touch with Jammu and Kashmir authorities.
Nation Mourns, Security Tightened Across Jammu & KashmirFollowing the attack, security has been significantly heightened in Pahalgam and adjoining districts. Intensive search operations are underway, and additional deployment of troops has been made to prevent further incidents. Hospitals in the region are on high alert, with emergency teams attending to the injured.
The incident comes at a time when Kashmir was witnessing a return of normalcy, with increasing tourist arrivals. The government has reiterated its commitment to eliminating terrorism and restoring peace in the region.
