Himachal Pradesh Weather Alert: Rain and Snowfall Expected in Upper Hills from April 24 Onwards

Shimla, April 22, 2025 — The weather in Himachal Pradesh is set to shift again later this week, as a new Western Disturbance is expected to impact the region starting April 24, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted. While most of the state will remain clear over the next 24 hours, upper hill districts like Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, and Kangra are likely to experience rain and snowfall between April 24 and 26.

Western Disturbance to Bring Precipitation in Higher Altitudes

Sandeep Sharma, a senior scientist at the Shimla Meteorological Center, stated that from April 24 to 26, the Western Disturbance will be more active in high-altitude regions. The districts of Mandi and Shimla may also witness light to moderate rainfall on April 25 and 26, although no weather alerts have been issued for these areas.

In contrast, plains and mid-hill regions like Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Solan, and Sirmaur are expected to remain dry throughout the week. On April 27, isolated snowfall and rain may occur only in upper mountainous regions, with the entire state expected to clear up from April 28.

Rainfall and Snowfall Recorded in Last 24 Hours

Over the past 24 hours, moderate rainfall was recorded in several areas including Nahan, Kupvi, Manali, Dharamshala, Kangra, Bilaspur, and Solan, with precipitation ranging from 5mm to 20mm.

Snowfall reports include:

• Khadrala (Shimla): 6.0 cm

• Hansa (Lahaul-Spiti): 5.0 cm

• Gondla: 4.0 cm

• Keylong: Light snowfall

Hailstorms were reported in Kangra, Jubbarhatti, Kalpa, and Bhuntar, with thunderstorms and gusty winds recorded in several pockets. The strongest winds were clocked at 56 km/h in Bajaura and 52 km/h in Seobagh.
