Send Push

Bhopal, April 7 Scorching heat has swept across Madhya Pradesh, marking the end of the recent spell of rain and hailstorms. On Sunday, temperatures in 14 districts soared above 40°C, with Ratlam emerging as the hottest, recording a peak of 42.6°C. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert from April 9, warning residents to brace for extreme weather conditions.

Heatwave Intensifies as Rain System Moves Away

The IMD has confirmed that the rain and hailstorm system active in recent days has now shifted, leaving behind clear skies and intense heat. As warm winds dominate the region, states bordering Rajasthan are expected to bear the brunt of the heatwave. Over the past three days, temperatures have continued to climb steadily.

On Sunday, Bhopal experienced intense sunshine, reaching a high of 40.5°C. Other major cities reported similar or higher temperatures:

  • Gwalior: 40°C

  • Ujjain: 41°C

  • Narmadapuram: 42.2°C

  • Khajuraho (Chhatarpur): 42°C

  • Guna: 41°C

  • Mandla: 40.5°C

  • Damoh: 40.4°C

  • Shajapur, Dhar, Tikamgarh: 40.3°C

  • Sagar, Nowgong: 40°C

Other Cities Close to Heatwave Threshold

Several cities narrowly missed the 40°C mark but remained dangerously close, highlighting the widespread nature of the heat:

  • Indore: 39.8°C

  • Jabalpur: 39.6°C

  • Satna: 39.9°C

  • Malajkhand: 39.5°C

  • Khargone, Chhindwara: 39.4°C

  • Seoni: 39.2°C

  • Betul: 39°C

The IMD predicts that temperatures will continue to rise across the state for the next three days, intensifying heatwave conditions, especially in northern and western regions.

Rain Relief in Select Districts Expected by April 9–10

While much of Madhya Pradesh braces for rising temperatures, the IMD has forecast light rain in a few eastern districts including Balaghat, Dindori, Singrauli, Mandla, and Anuppur on April 9 and 10. However, these showers are unlikely to provide widespread relief from the heat.

Residents are advised to take precautions, stay hydrated, avoid peak afternoon hours, and follow local advisories to prevent heat-related illnesses.
