Himachal Pradesh Weather Alert: Thunderstorms, Hail, and Gusty Winds Predicted on April 10–11; Yellow Alert Issued

Shimla, April 10, 2025 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Himachal Pradesh as the state braces for thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds on April 10 and 11 due to the impact of a western disturbance. Residents and tourists are advised to stay alert, especially in higher-altitude regions.

Weather Update Yellow Alert: Thunder, Hail, and Strong Winds

According to IMD, several parts of mid-hill and low-lying areas in Himachal are expected to experience:

  • Thunderstorms with lightning

  • Winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h

  • Hailstorm activity in select locations

  • Light rain and snowfall in districts like Chamba, Kullu, Kangra, and Lahaul-Spiti

The weather department specifically forecasts hail on Thursday, April 11, along with moderate precipitation in northern districts.

High Temperatures in Lowlands, Cold in the Hills

While heat continues to rise in the plains, the high-altitude regions of the state are witnessing slight changes in weather. Una recorded the hottest day of the season on Tuesday with a maximum temperature of 38°C. In contrast, Shimla remained relatively stable, recording a high of 25.2°C, marginally down from the previous day.

Rain and Snow Forecast Through April 12

Here’s what to expect in the coming days:

  • April 10–11: Light rain likely in mid-hill and plain areas

  • April 11: Moderate rain in Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Kullu

  • April 12: Light rain expected in higher reaches of Chamba, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, and Kangra

After this spell, the weather is expected to clear up. From April 13 onward, the forecast predicts dry and sunny conditions across the state.

Authorities Advised to Stay Vigilant

The Meteorological Department has urged local administration and authorities to remain on high alert, especially in high-altitude and snow-prone areas, to ensure public safety during episodes of strong winds, rain, and snowfall.
